  • Conduct comprehensive market analysis to identify current trends, competitor offerings, pricing strategies, and market gaps.
  • Perform user pain point identification through surveys, focus groups, and analysis of customer reviews to pinpoint frustrations with existing products.
  • Prioritize and define a detailed list of product features (e.g., 4K resolution, reliable parking mode, ease of installation, specific sensor types) based on market demand and user feedback.
  • Ensure strict regulatory compliance with all relevant standards (e.g., FCC certification, state-specific privacy laws).

2. Product Design (R&D)

To translate market requirements into detailed technical specifications and a functional, manufacturable product design.
  • Develop detailed product specifications including hardware components (image sensor, processor, memory), software features, and mechanical dimensions.
  • Design the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout, optimizing for performance, size, and heat management.
  • Develop the embedded firmware and software for the dash cam's core functions and the companion mobile application.
  • Create the mechanical design for the enclosure, mounting system, and internal structure, focusing on aesthetics, ergonomics, and durability.

3. 3D Printing & Design Validation

To create rapid physical models of the mechanical design for visual assessment, fit checks, ergonomic testing, and early design validation before committing to expensive mould.
  • 3D printing of mechanical parts (e.g., housing shells, button caps, mounting brackets) directly from CAD designs.
  • Conduct fit and assembly checks with preliminary electronic components to ensure all internal parts correctly fit within the printed casing.
  • Evaluate ergonomics and user interaction (e.g., button feel, port accessibility, screen visibility) using the physical prototypes.
  • Gather internal feedback from design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to identify and refine any design flaws or areas for improvement.

4. Mould Development

To design and fabricate the precision moulds (dies) required for mass production of plastic injection molded parts and other custom components.
  • Perform a rigorous Design for Manufacturability (DFM) review on finalized mechanical designs, ensuring they are optimized for injection molding processes.

  • Conduct initial mould trials (T0, T1) to produce first-off samples and verify part quality, dimensional accuracy, and material flow.
  • Refine moulds based on trial results and part inspection, making adjustments until all parts meet stringent quality and design specifications.

5. Pilot Run (T0 - T2)

To validate the entire production process, tools, and assembly lines at a small-to-medium scale, identify and resolve any unforeseen issues before full mass production. This is often the first time the complete product is assembled and tested end-to-end on a production line.
  • Produce a limited batch of units using the finalized production line and mould.
  • Monitor and fine-tune assembly processes for efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Conduct intensive quality checks on every unit from the pilot run to identify process-related defects or material issues.
  • Gather feedback from operators on challenges or areas for process improvement.

6. Mass Production

To scale up manufacturing to high volumes, consistently producing dash cams that meet all quality, cost, and delivery targets.
  • Implement continuous process monitoring and control (e.g., Statistical Process Control - SPC) to maintain consistent quality.
  • Regularly conduct inline and end-of-line quality checks to detect and address defects promptly.
  • Manage material flow and inventory at a high volume to prevent stoppages and ensure efficient production.
  • Conduct periodic production audits to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and quality protocols.

7. Component Sourcing & Incoming Quality Control (IQC)

To verify that all raw materials and components received from suppliers meet the specified quality standards before they enter the production line.
  • Conduct visual inspections for physical defects, damage, or inconsistencies.
  • Perform dimensional checks on mechanical parts using calipers, gauges, or CMMs.
  • Execute electrical tests on critical electronic components to confirm their functionality and specifications.
  • Verify material certifications and documentation to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

8. Aseemble

To combine all tested sub-assemblies and components into the complete dash cam unit within its finished housing.
  • Mechanical assembly: Meticulously mount the PCBA, camera module, display, and other components into the dash cam's housing
  • Cable routing and connection: Properly route and connect all internal cables, ensuring no pinched wires or loose connections.
  • Housing closure and sealing: Securely fasten the top and bottom housing parts, ensuring a tight fit and proper alignment.
  • Button and port verification: Manually check the tactile feel of buttons and the proper alignment and functionality of all external ports.

9. Quality Control

To ensure the long-term reliability and durability of the dash cams, catching any potential defects before shipment.
  • Ageing testing: Subject all manufactured units to a ageing test (72 hours of continuous working) in a controlled environment to identify and eliminate early-life failures.
  • Environmental stress testing: Conduct batch testing (on a sample basis) under extreme conditions, including high/low temperatures, humidity, and vibration, to simulate real-world vehicle environments.
  • Drop testing: Perform controlled drop tests to ensure the product's mechanical robustness and resistance to impacts.
  • Random quality audits: Continuously pull units from the production line and finished goods inventory for rigorous re-testing and inspection to maintain high quality standards.

10. Packaging

To prepare the dash cam and its accessories for safe and attractive retail presentation and shipment.
  • Accessory kitting: Gather all required accessories (power cables, mounts, trim tools, user manuals, quick start guides, memory cards if included) for each unit.
  • Inner packaging: Place the dash cam and its accessories securely into their designated compartments within the retail box using protective inserts.
  • Retail box sealing & labeling: Seal the retail boxes and apply all necessary product information, barcodes, and compliance labels (e.g., FCC ID, safety warnings).
  • Master carton packing: Pack multiple retail boxes into larger master cartons, typically with appropriate cushioning for bulk shipping.

11. Warehousing & Logistics

To store completed, packaged products safely and manage inventory before fulfilling customer orders.
  • Finished goods storage: Store packaged dash cams in a climate-controlled and secure warehouse facility.
  • Inventory management: Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, tracking incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Ensure all shipping documentation and compliance for international and domestic transport are met.
